AVIAN INFLUENZA
Avian Influenza--also known as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) or Bird Flu or Avian Flu, or H5N1--has been found in New York State since 2022 in domestic poultry, wild birds, and a few species of mammals. There have been no human cases and no detections in cattle in NYS as of 2025 and the risk to the general public is considered "low"--which is not the same as "none." Infected wild birds and mammals may be encountered on Fort Drum.
